Secret Santa Art Trade 2011 – Now With Art!

15 Mar

The Twitter Secret Santa Art Trade 2011 finished late December and was quite successful, if you ask me! Tons of great art are posted on the site, and I’d encourage you to check it out!

I received my art from @rithtthewarluid, and it’s of Likal, my night elf hunter, and her pet Kanoni!

I just love it! I currently have it as my twitter avatar. And even more excitingly for Likal, I’ve started playing her again (at least a little bit). She’s ecstatic to get some attention again. Thanks again, Rith!

And of course, I ended up making some art too. This year it was for @greyseer!

Here’s a re-enactment of me on the day @Technophobia was drawing names out of a hat for who would draw for who:

Please not a person with a male character please not a person with a male character please not a person with a – Greyseer? Let’s check out his refs… Doh!

No offense Greyseer — I’m just not that good at drawing guys! And I knew I’d have a hard time expressing the awesomeness that is Tharion, because he looks totally badass.

My inability to draw guys probably shows a bit in the drawing, especially since I spent quite a large amount of time on the background and maybe not as much time on Tharion himself. (but check out that foreground cliff; it’s so pretty!) Also, I maaaay have left out some weapons and armor because they are also hard to draw. >_>

I saved “in-progress” images as I worked through this design so later I can do an in-depth post about my drawing process! And I may write an RP post describing what Likal is doing in the picture Rith had drawn; it just screams for a story, doesn’t it? I’ll probably do this for last year’s image too. :3

In the meantime, you really should go check out all the amazing art that was made! And if you participated, I hope to see you around next year for another year of art trading!

How To Clip Kitty Nails & Avoid Injury

25 Jul

Around the time we got our cat (who we later named Xena), I was touting some of her more … interesting qualities on Twitter.

Xena, a white cat, lies down with her front paws curled.

"You heard the vet - I'm an adorable doll! And am therefore incapable of doing misdeeds!"

Mainly the one where she peed on our bed, twice, for no apparent reason. We decided to get her spayed shortly after that, as we were guessing she might’ve been in heat (Apparently when cats are in heat they pee more. She hasn’t peed outside the litter box since getting spayed, though she is still banned from entering the bedroom at night, more because of the whole  “I attack feet that are under covers” and the “I jump onto high places and knock things down for attention.”)

Anyway, I mentioned on twitter that we were getting her spayed, and Rith the Warluid (@riththewarliud on twitter, who blogs at http://riththewarluid.wordpress.com/), who knows a thing or two about cats, asked how old Xena was. At the time she was around six months, and age Rith approved as old enough to get her spayed (hooray! Less peeing!) And because Rith knew so much about cats, I decided to ask some questions with regard to trimming kitty claws, a task I was apprehensive about.

Here’s the conversation we had on twitter (modified from its original version, formatted to fit be read on this blog).

Misha: Now quick – tell me what kind of clippers to get and also how to clip her nails. 😄

Rith: I don’t think the brand of clippers matters; we have a standard pair of scissor clippers that work just fine. It would be good if you could get her used to being on her back in your arms. I know it’s hard to do with a kitten!

Xena's Paw - Deadlier than it seems.

But that way she may not fight you as much when you go to clip her nails; I cradle the cat in my left arm like a baby and clip with the right as I am a righty. Generally I don’t have many issues; it helps if you have another person to scratch their ears and distract them. Also, treats are your best friend. If they get too fiesty, towel burrito them.

(Ed. Note: Sometimes she can lie on her back in my arms, though I usually can’t get a good handle on her to clip the nails. Instead I just sneak up with the clippers while she’s sleepy… Also, I have completely failed at all attempts to towel burrito Xena.)

Misha: Mmm, towel burrito. We’ll have to try it out. She loves lying on her back on stretching, but not as keen for being held.

Rith: Haha. Another thing you can do (if you can catch her and hold her still long enough!) is play with her feet to get her used to it.

Misha: Good news is I think my friend did that a lot, so she doesn’t mind her feet being touched. We’ve touched them a lot. :3

Rith: Awesome! I like your friend more and more. 🙂 Best of luck getting her nails trimmed! Also, invest in some of that clotting powder incase you cut a bit too short.

Rith: And let me guess; way too much information? xD

Misha: No, no. In fact I’ma gonna copy it all for further study. :3

(Ed. Note: That’s what this is.)

So there you have it. Lots of handy information on how to clip kitty nails! I’ve been doing pretty well so far, but I’ve only been making really short cuts so there are no bloody nails, as I still haven’t invested in some blotting powder!

Thanks again for the advice, Rith! And I’d appreciate any more advice on clipping cat nails that any of you might have!

"You want my paw? Fine. Here it is. You get 15 seconds before I start nipping."

Has it been a year already?

8 Apr

Ah, April. It seems like only yesterday it was March (though that isn’t too far off from the truth). A month where Spring is supposedly supposed to bloom all sorts of flowers (or is it supposed to rain? Either way, I’m certainly hoping for something that is not snow). A month that contains my sister and my best friend from elementary school’s birthdays.

And it apparently is a month that contains my blogoversary.

In fact, my blogoversary has already come and gone. It was on April 3rd, one year ago, that I made my first post.

I’ve kept myself busy, too. 56 posts written (not including this one), 108 comments made on the blog (though about half are mine), and 5,535 spam comments blocked (and counting). Not to mention the 723 tweets I’ve made on my blogging twitter account!

So here’s a toast — to another year of blogging, writing, and reading! And I hope you, dear reader, will be here to enjoy it with me!

Mishaweha, a tauren, bows before you in thanks.

Thanks for reading!

2010 In Review

26 Jan

For this week’s ‘PostAWeek’, I’m copping out and showing the stats email WordPress sent me (and presumably, all the rest of the WordPress bloggers. Don’t worry — I’ve added comments to make the read even more interesting!

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog Me, Myself… And All Of Them did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

Healthy blog!

The Blog-Health-o-Meter™ reads Wow. At first I thought they knew I blogged about World of Warcraft. Then I realized it just meant they were impressed. Also, I enjoy how this meter has no red.

Crunchy numbers

A Boeing 747-400 passenger jet can hold 416 passengers. This blog was viewed about 2,400 times in 2010. That’s about 6 full 747s. Or to put it another way, if each viewer had a can of beer each time they viewed the site (which they wouldn’t, since a good number of them are spambots), the amount of beer would fill about 6.25 bathtubs (thank you, Weird Converter!)

In 2010, there were 41 new posts, not bad for the first year! Technically the first post was in April, so that’s not even a full year! There were 165 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 34mb. That’s about 3 pictures per week. They chose a cute picture for this section, suspiciously from one of my most popular posts. Good thing they picked the cute picture — if they hadn’t I would have had to change it, and fiddling with pictures is such a drag.

The busiest day of the year was July 12th with 75 views. The most popular post that day was About. That was the day I joined twitter and @ILikeBubbles told people to welcome me. I was overwhelmed by the luv on the twitters. ❤ you guys!

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were twitter.com (WoW bloggers/readers, spambots), blogazeroth.com (WoW bloggers/readers), mmomeltingpot.com (WoW bloggers/readers), aodstudios.com (WoW artists), and healthfitnesstherapy.com (spambots).

Some visitors came searching, mostly for power of the horde tooth, power of the horde – tooth, tooth horde, horde tooth, and horde by tooth. These searchers end up at this post (look familiar?), as they too are trying to find out who this ‘Tooth’ is. My own searches for the artist Tooth have also been futile. Tooth, if you’re out there, link us your site so we all can find it, because you draw awesome.

This post is a password protected one for the Secret Santa Art Trade, which I talked about here. Overall, this list shows some of my better works, though my more popular posts are definitely ones based off of Shared Topics!

And there you have it. A (nearly) full year of blogging is summed up nicely (and better yet, I didn’t have to do the summing!) Hopefully these positive blogging trends continue into this year. So please, keep reading!

Secret Santa Art Trade 2010

18 Jan

Recently, I participated in a Secret Santa Art Exchange on the twitters, hosted by Loreli. Art was distributed on the 24th of December — what a great Christmas present!

If you follow the blog Manalicious, you would have already seen the piece that Vidyala (the former Pugging Pally) did for me. However, I will also show it here because it is smexy:

Mishaweha by Vidyala

Mishaweha by Vidyala. It's my favorite armor set! Also - totems! ❤

I absolutely love it! I’ve even made it into my current twitter/gravatar icons! So thank you a bunch, Vidyala!

But as this was an art trade, I too had to draw someone all pretty, and that someone (picked out by non-artist Technophobia) was Fyreuni, of Daily Quests fame! I had tons of ideas for what to draw (with most well out of the bounds of my abilities/time to complete them, which is why Vas wasn’t drawn. Sorry!) In the end I came up with this:

Fyreuni

She's wearing the priest Tier 11, as requested. It's a pretty set (for priests), even if it has a couple dudes looking into pools of water on the shoulders.

It’s not too bad if I dare say so myself, though I’ve vowed never to draw tier gear again! So many details! I’m much more of a lazy slapdash artist myself.

I’m not that happy with the background, though. I decided to put her in Vashj’ir, which is notionally the zone priest Tier 11 armor is based on. However, Vashj’ir’s plantlife isn’t exactly pretty, and the colors ended up being a little too similar (I’m horrible with color schemes!)

So just because I can, here’s a version of the picture with Fyreuni in the Mac whitespace:

Fyreuni in Macspace

Fyreuni in the place they filmed those Mac commercials.

The purple on her arm is indeed shadowform. I’m pretending the spell rapidly moves up from her hand to cover the rest of her body, instead of being instantly applied. I had put more shadowform over her body, but it hid the ‘details’ of the armor (and also The SA said it looked like she got covered in some sort of purple mud. >.> )

I’ll close with a small sample of the many, many sketches I did of Fyreuni in the weeks before starting the finished drawing. These are just the ones that I did at home, and not while at work (since I didn’t feel like taking work materials home to scan!)

These were drawn on wedding thank you notes I had messed up:

Fyreuni Sketches 1

Sketched Fyreuni heads, now with scribbled notes!

Fyreuni Sketches 2

More Fyreunis, now with cute poses!

Fyreuni Sketches 3

More Fyreuni, now with slightly more detailed armor!

Fyreuni Sketches 4

More Fyreuni, now with sketchy Tier 11 armor! (This sketch was the main basis for the pose, and the first time I carefully studied the Tier 11 armor)

That’s all I have to say about this year’s Secret Santa Art Trade! Here’s the page with a list of participants and links to all the art that they made. You should go check out all of the great art there!
